Launched in 2018, JohnsonClark offers a range of surveying and architectural services for residential and commercial clients. Our highly skilled team bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and over 75 years of industry experience to each project with a track record of delivering outstanding outcomes to our clients.

Director
Ian Johnson MRICS
Ian is an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor with particular knowledge in rural/historic properties and an academic background in estate management. Before becoming an RICS member in 1996, Ian already had 8 years’ experience in the profession working on projects across the north of England.

Within JohnsonClark, Ian oversees all the building surveying services to ensure regulatory compliance and to maintain high level of service promised to clients. Ian’s knowledge of buildings and building defects is drawn upon by other members of the team who he mentors in their technical development.
Ian enjoys the rural setting and country pursuits with a keen interest in golf and fly fishing.

Chartered Building Surveyor
Florence Spaven MRICS (Certified Historic Building Professional), IHBC
Florence became chartered with the RICS in 2018, and subsequently achieved accreditation in Historic Building Conservation and full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). Previous roles include acting as Building Surveyor and Project Manager at the National Trust and English Heritage, where Florence gained valuable experience working with Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, heritage stakeholders and the management of specialist conservation work.
Within JohnsonClark, Florence conducts residential and defect surveys, on buildings of a range of ages and types. Florence also advises on heritage and conservation within project and architectural work.
Outside of work, Florence enjoys biking and walking in Hamsterley Forest with her young family. She also plays saxophone in the Community Orchestra in Barnard Castle.​​

Architectural Technologist
Dave Andrews BA(Hons) ACIAT
Dave studied Architectural Design at the University of Derby and has been working professionally within the industry since 2015. With experience on both residential and commercial projects Dave has a keen interest in detailing and is currently working towards his professional Chartership with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

Within JohnsonClark, Dave works exclusively on the architectural side, often on our larger projects which, alongside providing design and technical services, he regularly co-ordinates and liaises with other consultants to deliver projects.
Dave is a bit of a foodie and enjoys cooking with his family and trying out new recipes. Alongside a busy family life Dave also enjoys getting out on the golf course, motorsports and cheering on his football team.

Architectural Technologist
Alex May BA(Hons) ACIAT
Alex has a BA in Interior Architecture and experience within the steel industry and disabled access design. An interest in architecture and building design from a young age is now being underpinned with the technical knowledge of his experiences within the industry.
​
Within JohnsonClark, Alex focuses mainly on our residential projects, where he works closely with clients throughout the process. Alex is also proficient in all our latest softwares, keeping up to date with the latest developments and aiding the rest of the team. He is also helping to develop our in-house CGI/amination services.
​
Alex enjoys keeping up to date with lots of sports and likes to keep fit himself. Alex likes playing and working on computers; having built his own personal PC for gaming, he enjoys socialising with friends and family on games nights.

Director
Stephen Clark BA(Hons) MSc MRICS
Stephen had a background in architectural design which is now underpinned by his experience as a chartered surveyor. Working within the industry since 2006, Stephen has taken a wide range of projects from conception to completion. A combination of this experience and the demonstration of senior leadership was recognised by the RICS as part of Stephen's pathway to becoming a chartered member.
Within JohnsonClark, Stephen supports the architectural team in all aspects of their work and helps to deliver these services to clients. Alongside this Stephen also leads the strategic development and growth of the company, working with all members of the team.
Stephen has a young family and while he doesn’t play as much social rugby as he used to, he still enjoys trips to Edinburgh in support of his national rugby team.

Secretary/Administrator
Alison Halliday
Alison has over 20 years’ secretarial experience, the majority of which has been with companies providing professional services relating to property. Alison's interpersonal skills are clear to see when working closely with others, both in person and over the phone.
Within JohnsonClark, Alison provides administrative support to the team and assists clients to contact the right member depending on their enquiry. She ensures correct procedures are followed when setting up new survey or project instructions and co-ordinates appointments for all members of the team. Alison also oversees the accounts and general office administration.
Alison enjoys cooking, reading, catching up with friends and trips to the theatre. Family time is important to her, and she often spends weekends away with family in their caravan.

Secretary/Administrator
Elizabeth Chapman
Elizabeth has previously worked in the legal and banking sectors with both roles requiring accurate and clear communication skills. Elizabeth is comfortable with managing workloads and providing excellent customer service.
Within JohnsonClark, Elizabeth provides secretarial and administrative support to the team by way of dealing directly with potential new clients and ensuring that survey reports are produced promptly and efficiently.
Elizabeth enjoys listening to music, walking in the countryside and spending time with family and friends.
